Houston's (aka Hillstone)

What happened here???  My go-to spot in the city is what happened...

Everybody has their own “go-to” restaurant in the city.  A place where you can always count on the consistency of the food, you always order the same one or two things, and you always get this sense of happiness when you are there.  First place that comes to mind?  Houston’s is it (I know I know, they changed their name to Hillstone but I refuse to accept)!

Yes, Houston's is a chain.  And yes, I acknowledge that NYC does have a lot to offer in terms of eating options.  But Houston's is one of the best when it comes to great service, consistent quality in the food, nice atmosphere, and manageable pricing.  Most importantly, I have never walked out of Houston's less than satisfied.

I love the open kitchen in each of Houston's locations

Most come for the burger and the prime rib.  I've had both and they are indeed delicious, but I want to introduce you to my ultimate favorites.  First, though, I'd like to point out that Houston's offers free refills on their fountain drinks.  That's right - FREE REFILLS.  And the best part is, when I'm 2/3 through my current soda the waiter/waitress has already brought me my next one.  Diet Cokes are a must at dinner and I usually go through at least three of these each meal (don't judge).

My 2/3 done soda and its replacement waiting at the ready!

My next 'must-have' at Houston's is the Spinach and Artichoke Dip.  This dip is unbelievable!!  Freshly baked and hot, its got a perfect balance of spinach, artichoke, and gooey cheese.  Served with salsa, sour cream, and warm tortilla chips, this dip is one of the best there is!

For entrees, my fellow Houston's lover and I shared the Asian Steak and Noodle Salad (formerly known as the Thai Noodle Jungle Salad) and the Georges Bank Fish Sandwich.

Georges Bank Fish Sandwich
As you can see from the picture above, the Asian Steak and Noodle Salad is not much of a salad at all!  To be honest, it probably consists of only a handful of leaves (some of which may actually be mint).  The rest is made up of juicy chunks of steak, peanuts, noodles, tomatoes, and avocados all tossed in a Thai dressing.  What's not to love?!

The Georges Bank Fish Sandwich.  Now this is a piece of work - only seconded by the fish sandwich I had on vacation in Cabo.  On the outside the fish is perfectly breaded and crispy.  On the inside, the fish is fresh, cooked to flaky perfection, and piping hot!  All served on a toasted bum with pickles, cole slaw, onions, and their special tartar sauce.  I dreaaaam for this sandwich.

You also get a choice of side - most people go for their Shoestring French Fries (admittedly delish) but I just couldn't pass on the fully loaded baked potato.  As much as I love the Wendy's baked potato, this is 10000000000x BETTER than Wendy's!  The fresh butter, sour cream, melting cheese, crispy bacon bits and scallions all crammed in there just take the baked potato to another level all together.

Have I jump-started your appetite yet?  If yes, make your way to Houston's ASAP and give any of the above items a try!  I hope I've inspired you to try something new and you love it as much as I do.
