Steak 'n Shake

Sometimes you just crave a good burger and fries...and maybe a milkshake to wash it all down!  When I heard that a Steak 'n Shake was opening in Midtown, I KNEW I had to give it a try.  I had never been before, but a college buddy from Chicago often talked about how good it was. My opportunity to try had finally come!

So on the second day after it opened, I made the pilgrimage to NYC's very first Steak 'n Shake.  Look at what greeted us:

Yes, thats right...a line!  Looks like I wasn't the only one excited to give Steak 'n Shake a try!  Luckily, it was well staffed and the lines moved quickly and orderly.

While waiting on line, I tried to scope out the menu but there was lot to read and the font a touch too small.  I suggest taking a look online first to investigate what you'll be ordering!

The burgers and sandwiches are priced between $4-$6 each and come with an order of fries - not a bad value if you ask me!  My companions ordered the Signature Burger and the Western BBQ 'n Bacon, and I went with my college buddy's favorite, the Frisco Melt.  And of course, how could I not order a Cookies 'n Cream milkshake to accompany my meal?

For those of you looking for non-milkshake options, Steak 'n Shake also offers beer, wine, and soda.  Check out the wine dispenser and the snazzy touch-screen soda machines!

After you place your order, the system is very similar to Shake Shack (or maybe more like Cheesecake Factory in the burbs) where you are given a buzzer, and when your food is ready you will be paged to pick up your order.  While waiting, I decided to take a look around and explore.  Well, the space is pretty small so there wasn't much to see, but it was interesting seeing so many workers in the small kitchen area working on the orders:

There are only a handful of tables there for dining in (by handful, I mean 3) so be prepared to either eat standing on whatever ledge you can find, or taking your meal to go.  Lucky for us, we actually score a spot at one of the tables just as our food was ready!

First to be tackled - my milkshake!  The milkshake was very very thick, but I loved the taste!  Whipped cream and cherry on top made me extra excited.

The fries are thin, crispy, and fresh.  Tasty!! And you get a healthy serving =D

And the burgers...

Burgers tasted fresh and had the perfect amount of flavor.  I liked that they had several options from a traditional burger, to BBQ burgers, melts, and even a Portabello 'n Swiss option!  I can't wait to go back and try more.  Until then, I'll just keep looking at my pictures.  Give it a try and let me know what you think I should try next!
