Brunch: Peels

There's a brunch spot that offers a Build-A-Biscuit option!  And its only a couple blocks away from my apartment! Yippee!!

As I approached Peels in the East Village / NoHo area, the small crowd mulling around outside is a key indicator that tasty goodies await my belly inside.  And good news - Peels takes reservations, even for brunch!

Upon entering, you are greeted by a full crowd enjoying their brunch.  Space was tight and tables small on the main floor, so luckily my group was led to a nice spacious booth on the second floor.

The main floor was packed with patrons!
After taking a quick perusal of the menu, our eyes were immediately attracted to anything with grits, anything with gravy, and of course the Build-A-Biscuit section!

We settled on orders of Shrimp & Grits, a customized Build-A-Biscuit, and the Peels Biscuit & Gravy.

All the food was served hot and while the portions weren't overwhelmingly large, the dishes were hearty and subsequently cleaned down to the last drop.  No gravy or biscuit crumb left behind!

And for those of us that didn't have a biscuit or grits with their meal, we ordered a side of the Cheddar-Jalapeno Grits and a simple biscuit for everyone to share and indulge!  The grits didn't have much Jalapeno to it, but I liked the cheddar part (who doesn't love cheese??!).  The biscuit was served with delicious jam and awesome fresh butter.

Nice flaky biscuit mmmm...
Looking back, Peels attention to the little things definitely made my brunch all the more enjoyable.  While I wasn't wowed by the service, our food was served promptly and our water glasses kept full.  I did love that they served my tea in this silver pot and teacup.  The ketchup wasn't your usual Heinz (not that I noticed a huge difference in taste, but I appreciated the novelty) and all the food was served on pretty white dishes.

If you're looking for a new brunch spot a try, definitely consider Peels!
