Rice to Riches

Just this past weekend, I happened to be in SoHo / Nolita for dinner with a friend (post to come soon on my dinner at The Pan American!) and we decided to stop by Rice to Riches for a little dessert.  Turns out my friend, who also went to NYU with me, had never been to Rice to Riches before although she had heard of it.  So it made me think...have you been before?

I know I know...Rice to Riches is an oldie and has been around for a while now.  But have you been??  Last year, I thought I was the only one who had never tried and so I secretly took the subway to Spring Street and bought myself a rice pudding from Rice to Riches.  After the events of last weekend, there must be more Rice to Riches newbies out there!

While I'm not really a big rice pudding fan, there is something about Rice to Riches that I enjoy. Maybe it's the fun atmosphere.  Maybe it's the fancy containers and spoons that come with your order.  Whatever it is, I keep coming back for more!

Looking bright and totally out of place on Spring St, Rice to Riches just calls your attention - especially if its at night.

As you enter, you'll see entertaining phrases placed all over the walls.  Here are some of my favorites:

The next thing you'll notice are all the rice pudding flavors!!  They have so many different flavors (including Rocky Road, Panna Cotta, Cheesecake, and the list goes on...) it's pretty much like an ice cream shop.

While kind of pricey for what it is (small size starting at $7), my friend and I couldn't resist getting the next size up (at $8 and some change) which let us order two flavors: Cookies and Cream and the Marscapone with Cherries.  Similar to ice cream shops, you can add toppings such as caramel sauce, walnuts, dried fruits, graham crackers to your rice pudding.  My favorite?  I love getting the whipped cream on the side!

Your order comes in a snazzy container and matching curved stick type thing that acts as a spoon.  Totally adds to the novelty of the experience!

While there aren't many seating options, if you are lucky you may be able to snag one of the three fun looking tables in the back.  If not, there is a large table near the front of the store that you can stand at and enjoy your treat.

The texture of the rice pudding was perfect and the flavors all excellent.  I especially loved adding the whipped cream on top - just an extra touch of decadence in my dessert.  Although pricey, definitely stop by and share an order.  I know you'll love it!
