The Pan American

With Piggy KL vacationing in France for the last week, this Piggy KK is trying to cope with the envy loneliness by the usual: emotional eating.  For this go 'round, I stopped by The Pan American in Nolita for cocktails and dinner.

When you walk in, you're greeted with a very colorful, fun, and modern interior.  Take a look!

Loving the feel of the bar area
Dining area is really fun too
I loved the nice red menus - they open up!  Sometimes its the little things that make my meals extra enjoyable.

Of course, there's no better way to start off the night than with a couple fantastic cocktails!  The Pan American has a great cocktail menu with several original creations.  I went with the Jack Handy (Calvados, house-made pomegranite grenadine, lime juice) and dining compadre selected the Grapes of Wrath (muddled grape, Tito's Handmade Vodka, sparkling rose).  The Grapes of Wrath was definitely a super fun drink and served in a great glass!

For our meal, we ordered four items to share between the two of us.  Sounds like a lot, but the dishes here are more of a "small plate" concept and probably are best when shared.  Portion size wasn't impressive, but the flavors were good!

First up was the Poblano Pepper stuffed with quinoa, mushrooms, and spicy tomato coulis.  This was excellent - flavor was well balanced and loved the little kick that came with the spicy tomato coulis.

Next to come out were the Pan-Am Burger sliders and the Empanadas. The sliders came two per order and were tasty.  The ox-tail patty was juicy and the bun was super soft.  The Empanadas came with three per order so we ordered one of each flavor: duck, oxtail, and cheese & scallion.  Loved the taste, but could do with more filling in each empanada (especially priced at $10 for three!).

And finally, we had the Octopus and Squid dish.  This was very tasty! Served with baby fennel, piquillo, potatoes, serrano, and pimenton, I especially loved the bacon pieces and octopus.  While not a filling dish, the flavor was delicious!

The flavors and cocktails made for an enjoyable dinner experience.  If you're in the area, definitely stop by and share a couple plates!
