Coolhaus

Ice cream trucks are a childhood favorite of mine.  And by ice cream truck, I mean all ice cream (truck or not).  I love it all!  When I first moved to the city, Mr. Softee trucks were on almost every corner and I was ecstatic.  No more waiting and hoping for the truck to go down my block - I can choose when I want it!  Sadly, each time I went to Mr. Softee I walked away disappointed - just didn't quite hit the spot for me.

Lucky for me, the recent explosion of food trucks has brought in lots of new and different ice cream options yay!  One that I recently got to try was Coolhaus.  Known for eccentric all-natural handmade ice cream flavors and various cookie options, you can pick an ice cream and pair it with two cookies to make your own ice cream sandwich!  Each sandwich is $6 and comes in its signature slanty shape (similar to the roof of the truck!) wrapped in edible paper.

Knowing that I've been meaning to try Coolhaus, an old colleague of mine messaged me during lunch one day at work to tell me that Coolhaus was in the area!  Upon arrival, I quickly realized that I had underestimated the number of options and possible combinations there could be...

After much deliberation, I chose oatmeal raisin cookies with the coffee and oreo ice cream.  It really came in the slanty shape!

My creation! Oatmeal raisin cookie and coffee oreo ice cream - all in the slanty shape!

Definitely a tasty ice cream sandwich - distinctive flavor yet not overly sweet or heavy.  Cookie was soft and chewy but firm enough to keep the ice cream together.  It got a little messy in the end when the ice cream started melting, but that just meant I had to eat faster.  At the end I was left with the edible wrapper which was definitely interesting.  It didn't take like anything and just dissolved in your mouth. I like the concept, but I think next time I'll just stick with the ice cream sandwich lol.  If you see Coolhaus in your area, definitely give it a try and take the chance to be creative with your tasty creation!
