Cafe Habana

After 10 years of living in NYC, I've finally made it to Cafe Habana and have tasted its Mexican Grilled CornHoly smokes....I've been missing out!

Located on a corner in SoHo / Nolita, it looks like an unmarked diner on the outside.  On the inside, it still looks like a tiny (but packed!) diner.  Definitely tiny, so be prepared to wait.  We arrived around 1:45pm and it was a half hour wait.  As we left around 3:30pm, the hostess was still quoting a 40 minute wait for interested parties.

Inside of Cafe Habana - tiny, packed, yet so festive lol
We came for brunch, so I was torn between ordering a brunchy egg item or a "regular" item. The corn, however, was a must and definitely happening.

My dining compadre ordered the mango Boing soda, and I couldn't resist going for one as well (my AIM screen name back in the day was 'katielikesmangos' hehe).  A touch thick and more a juice than soda, but still nice and refreshing!

Ahhh...the infamous Mexican Grilled Corn!  Each order comes with two ears of freshly grilled corn, each topped with mayo, chili powder, cotija cheese, lime, and a toothpick for after.  Although such a simple thing, this grilled corn really was such a treat and not to be missed!

I'm chomping away and making sure to keep my toothpick handy!
For our mains, dining compadre selected the Baja Style Fish Tacos and I ordered the Chilaquiles Verdes con Pollo  - Trucker Style (eggs on top).  Both were also excellent.  Flavorful, tender chicken (for the chilaquiles), and filling.  Ahhh so good!

I'm so glad I finally got to try Cafe Habana.  Just sad that I've been missing out all these years!  If you haven't tried it yet, definitely stop by for the corn pronto!
