El Camion

If there's anything I inherited from my mom, its her love for Mexican food.  On the hunt for my next margarita spot, I stopped by El Camion in the East Village and now I can't wait to share this spot with my mom (and you guys too!).

El Camion Cantina
With $5 margarita happy hour specials until 7pm on weeknights, I made sure to stop by with enough time to take advantage!  The margaritas come in just about any flavor (including guava, mango, and blood orange amongst others) and either frozen or on the rocks.  I went with the pomegranate margarita on the rocks and dining compadre with with a classic margarita on the rocks.  The pomegranate margarita was so tasty that we both ordered it for our second round of drinks!

Who doesn't love a margarita?!
With our drinks in hand, we took our time to peruse the dinner menu:

While waiting for our entrees, we were served chips and salsa.  The tortilla chips, served in a little pail, were warm, crispy, and not overly thick.  The salsa was smoky and delicious enough for us to ask for seconds!

For our entrees, dining compadre ordered the Black Bean Tostada Salad with Steak.  The salad came with grilled corn, red onion, tomatoes, sour cream, black beans, all sitting on top of corn tortillas and guac.  This was a BIG salad and tasted awsome.  The flavor was well balanced and the dressing was fantastic - light and flavorful but not over-drenching the salad.

I went with the Shrimp Fajitas.  This turned into quite a lavish dish coming in 3 parts!  First was the dish of black beans and rice.  Second was the sizzling fajita dish with the roasted peppers and sauteed onions topped with 4 jumbo grilled shrimp.  The third included guac, sour cream, pico de gallo, and warm tortillas.

The shrimp were topped with this great smokey sauce that had a kick to it.  Fun and tasty to put it all together!

Made my fajita all by myself!
I'd definitely recommend stopping by and giving El Camion a go.  I had a fantastic meal and especially enjoyed my margaritas!  I loved it so much that I went back for brunch 3 days later!  I already can't wait for happy hour...
